Full Proposition 42 Funding Allows
Transportation Projects to Move Forward

At its first meeting following the signing of the 2005-06 Budget, the California Transportation Commission gave the green light to $1.26 billion to begin work on 337 projects throughout the state.

"We're back in business," declared Caltrans Director Will Kempton. Caltrans is projecting a total of more than $4 billion in STIP, SHOPP and TCRP projects to go forward this year.

At a Sacramento news conference on Friday, Governor Schwarzenegger said the decision to fully fund Proposition 42 will "allow us to build bridges, expand highways, create new car pool lanes and terminate gridlock and speed the commute for Californians. Dealing with this problem is important not only for today, but for our future. We are renewing our commitment to make our transportation network once again the envy of the world."

In echoing the Governor's comments at the News Conference, Transportation California Executive Director Michael Lawson said, "This is just a beginning. We need to work together going forward to assure that Proposition 42 monies continue to be invested in our state's transportation system."
